Basic Bread Stuffing
 
Ingredients: 1 cup finely chopped onions
1/2 pound butter
1 loaf white bread, cut into cubes
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
3/4 teaspoon ground sage
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 taspoon thyme
1/2 teaspoon rosemary
dash marjoram
dash ground cloves
turkey or chicken broth
 
Directions Sauté the onions in the butter and salt until softened. The salt helps draw the moisture out of the onions and prevents burning. Combine the onion mixture with bread, eggs, and spices in a large mixing bowl. Stir in broth until well moistened. Enough for an 8 to 10-pound turkey. Or, bake in a greased covered shallow casserole at 325° for about 35 to 45 minutes. Take the cover off the last 5 minutes to brown.
