Ingredients: |
2 pounds ground beef 2 tablespoons olive oil 2 cups finely chopped red onions 2 tablespoons brown sugar 2 tablespoons white vinegar 2 tablespoons brown mustard 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon liquid smoke 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 2 cloves minced garlic or 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1 teaspoon ground cumin 1 teaspoon parsley 1 teaspoon black pepper 1 tablespoon oregano 1/2 teaspoon chili powder 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper 2 tablespoons honey 15 ounces tomato sauce |
Directions |
Mix honey, liquid smoke, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, and olive oil in a skillet and use to saute onions and garlic. Once onions are thoroughly cooked, add meat and cumin and cook till meat is browned. Move to a large pot, add remaining ingredients, and heat to simmering. Reduce heat to medium and cook for 30 minutes, stiring occasionally, to incorporate flavors. Serve on hamburger buns. For a healthier option, substitute the 2 pounds ground beef with 1 3/4 pounds ground turkey and 1/4 cup vegetable oil. |
